BUTTRIO
The establishment of Buttrio dates back to around the 8th century AD.
Dominated by the Lombards until the arrival of Charlemagne, between 738 and 960 the area suffered repeated invasions by the Avars and Hungarians.
In the 13th century, the area was administered by the Counts of Gorizia and later by the Lords of Buttrio, who was finally ousted in 1415.
The villas and stately homes, including Villa di Toppo Florio, Villa Dragoni and the Castle of Morpurgo, bear witness to the charm that once captivated these parts. The area is also well known for its wine production and the Regional Wine Fair, held annually around the first week of June.
